I've had the opportunity to hunt with 3 different outfitters in South Africa over the 20+ years I've been in the business. They were all good, but Dries Visser Safaris is the best and where we send our hunters today. Dries Visser Sr & Dries Visser Jr established the company n 1990, and in my opinion, still the most well-known and respected hunting company in South Africa.
Bowhunters will be hunting a 50,000 acre, Bowhunting only concessions called the Citadel, which is owned by the Dries Visser family. The Citadel is located in the rural bushveld of northern South Africa, 3 &1/2 hours northwest of Johannesburg, near the town of Thambazimbi. The blinds are set within 20 yards of the waterholes and are well-designed and maintained. This is an exciting, and highly productive way to view and harvest Plains Game with Archery equipment.
Rifle hunters are welcome, and stay in the main camp within the Citadel, but hunt the rifle-hunting concessions within short (<30 mins) of camp. The Vissers have lived in this area for many years and know all the farmers and have access to virtually all of the adjacent properties if needed to support their rifle hunting clients.
They manage the harvest to support long term sustainable quality and you should expect opportunities at top-end trophies during your hunt.
Planning your Hunt:
You may choose to book a specific number of hunting days and pay for trophy fees as you go or you may book a package that includes the daily rates plus trophy fees. We nearly always promote booking a package as the total price is discounted, often as much as 35%. In either case, a deposit will secure the costs (inclusions/ trophy list add-ons) at the time of the booking.
