Brown Bears over Salmon in the Fall

Spot & Stalk interior Grizzlies in the spring

Spot and stalk Interior Grizzlies in the heart of the Brooks Range, between the “Gates to the Arctic National Park” on the west and the “Arctic National Wildlife Refuge” on the east. This is the largest Bowhunting only area in the world, accessible by truck via the Dalton(gravel) highway, connecting Fairbanks to the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay. You’ll be moving north as the new grasses begin to green-up as you try to locate a good bear in workable location. Expect to see a good number of Bears as you work the backcountry. Good chance to shoot a mature Bear as they run around 75% on shot opportunity with a few misses netting an average of 50% on tagged Bears. The top-end Boars in this area will occasionally square 8 feet while “Good Shooters” run 6 – 7 feet squared.

Interior Grizzlies over Salmon in the fall

Ambush your trophy Grizzly from elevated tree-stand overlooking streams choked with Salmon. Fly into remote river system during the peak of the salmon run when bears are drawn from large area to feast on the salmon. These Bears are well fed and run bigger than most interior Grizzlies and good shooter Boars will run 7-8 feet (squared). Outfitter has developed a unique hunting style with an elevated tree stand / tent-camp set right on the creek which has been very successful in generating good close shots on big Bears. Success has runs > 65% on nice Bears. Hunters should expect to spend the entire 5-day hunt in the elevated camp. You should see Bears every day and have an opportunity at a mature Boar before you’re done.

Brown Bears over Salmon in the fall

Hunt Coastal Brown Bears as they fish the salmon streams of southeast Alaska in a great area to Bow Hunt. Tree stands are especially effective as hunters wait on Brownies to return to their favorite fishing holes during the peak of the salmon spawning runs. Expect a crack at a mature Bear (8 ft – 9 ½ ft) on this hunt. This is a small operation where the outfitter does all the guiding. This hunt books fast as he does only 3 fall hunts / year. Success for Bowhunters runs over 75%, while rifle hunters rarely return without a Bear. This area has excellent Goats nearby and can be added via combination. I killed a beautiful Bear on my 3rd day.  Tom Close
