Antelope Bowhunt near Casper, Wyoming

3-day fully guided hunt - $2,850

Travel to north-central Wyoming with another top-notch outfitter in premier antelope country. They have an excellent population of antelope, an area where hunters are allowed to harvest 2 bucks.  Trophy quality is excellent, and we recommend hunters wait on solid Pope & Young animals. Hunting is hunting, but we expect nearly all our clients willing to pass smaller bucks to tag a nice P&Y qualifier.  Most of the hunting is done from well-established blinds set near waterholes. The 2nd buck is available with 2nd license + trophy fee. This is what we refer to as a full-service / semi-guided hunt.  The guides will drop off the hunters at their blind in the morning, with everything they need for the day. The guides will be checking on the hunters, and be promptly available if needed.  This hunt combines well with Mule Deer or Whitetails when the seasons overlap in September.

Where: Casper, Wyoming

Hunt Dates: Entire Archery season (mid-August thru September)

Unit 25:  2021 is full and now taking bookings for 2022

Unit 71: Openings available for 2021

What is included in the cost

  • 3 full days of hunting
  • Trophy fee for 1st buck
  • Access to prime private property
  • Blinds set at active waterholes
  • Transportation during the hunt
  • Field preparation of trophies and meat
  • All the accommodations (cabin) needed during the hunt
  • All meals needed during the hunt.

What is not included

  • License - $272
  • Meat processing  & Taxidermy work
  • Items of personal nature.

The Area & the Tag:

They hunt 2 different Big Game units, WBGU 25 & 71.

Their home ranch is in unit 25 which can usually be drawn with 0 preference points, but 1 preference point has always drawn. Most of their hunters will apply for 25 and hunt the home ranch but they are limited in the number of hunters they can take to sustain quality.

Their lease in WBGU 71 has a little better quality than 25, but a tougher draw. It took 5 preference points to draw 71 this year, up from 3 in 2016.

If you are unable to draw, your deposit is rolled into the next year at the same hunt cost.

Best time to go

We’ve always promoted the 1st part of the season (August 15th - 25th ) and that would be my choice for the upcoming year, but the bottom line is, success will depend more on the weather than the week you book. Hot, dry weather (which is typical in Wyoming) means dead Antelope.

    Getting your license

This outfitter will assist with the tags as he hunts 3 different draw areas.

The tags are available via draw, but are high (nearly 100%) probability of draw

    Best time to go

We’ve always promoted the 1st week of the season (mid-August) but the early September (pre-rut) hunts have been more successful the last 2 years, and that would be my choice, looking into this season. The bottom line is, success will depend more on the weather than the week you book. Hot, dry weather (which is typical in northeast Wyoming) means dead Antelope.

    Hunting strategy

Wait in elevated blinds at active waterholes set for 30 to 40 yard shots.

    Success rate

This guy’s been at it for a while - has a good area, and a solid game plan. On an average year, over 98% of his hunters will kill a nice antelope. The area has a good population of 13" – 14" bucks that will score high enough to make the book, and you have an excellent chance to tag one.

    Trophy Quality

There’s a lot of what we describe as nice bucks, with a modest sprinkling of great bucks. A good shooter will run 13" - 14" with good mass, an easy P&Y qualifier.  Typically the 1st decent buck that comes into the waterhole will get plugged, but a discriminating hunter should have no problem collecting one that will make the book.

Semi-Guided Antelope Bowhunt near Fort Collins, CO

    4-day Semi-guided Bowhunt - $1,500

Travel to northeastern Colorado near Fort Collins, for a semi-guided antelope bowhunt with one of our best outfitters in a really good area. This is a limited draw area which requires 2-3 preference points, but we can get landowner vouchers if needed.  This is one of the better areas where run of the mill shooter bucks will go 14” – 15”  with good mass and score in the mid 70s with a legitimate shot at something special over 16” that will score in the 80s. This is a great area, but the outfitter offers only limited services (to keep hunt price reasonable) where hunters provide their own transportation, meals and accommodations.  This is a classic water-hole hunt where we expect nearly all patient hunters to punch their tags. Blinds will be set at waterholes, and hunting is expected to be good.

What is included in the cost

    • 4 full days of hunting
    • Access to prime private property
    • Blinds set before you arrive.

    What is not included

    • License
    • Landowner vouchers - $500
    • Transportation (4x4 pickup) needed for the hunt
    • Meals & Accommodations needed during the hunt
    • Meat processing  - we recommend a good reliable locker in Fort Collins.

    Hunting Strategy

I would personally recommend cruising the “rancher trails” within gated private property with the intent of glassing up a good buck from long range. You should expect to see a lot of animals as you search for the biggest buck available. Once you locate him, try to determine where he’s watering, get into that blind and wait him out. Trail cameras could also be very useful as you can do an inventory each night after dark.

    Success Rate

A hunter’s ability and drive will often dictate success on a semi-guided hunt, and this is no different. Hot and dry weather is what you want and expect during the antelope archery season. We expect nearly all the hunters to get a good shot at a nice (14+ inch / P&Y) buck given normal hot / dry weather.

    Getting your License

The tag for this hunt requires 2-3 preference points to draw, but the outfitter will assist in purchasing the landowner vouchers if unable to draw.

Semi-Guided Antelope Bowhunt near Harrison, NE

    4-day Semi-guided Bowhunt - $1,300

Travel to northwestern Nebraska, just off the Wyoming state line near Harrison, for a semi-guided antelope bowhunt. The hunters will be shown the property the afternoon prior to their hunt dates and advised to the best strategy to get started. They should expect to manage themselves for the duration of the hunt after their introduction.

Most hunters will enjoy success from a ground blind or tree stand over-looking an active waterhole, but as the rut kicks into gear around mid-September decoying can become an exciting hunt style as well.  For those that would enjoy the challenge, they also have areas where stalking can be effective.  This is private property managed to sustain good quality, but licenses are available over the counter, which is convenient for those that don’t have preference points. Top-end bucks in the area will score in the 80s, but we suggest taking the 1st solid Pope & Younger (12+ inch with good mass & prongs) that presents a good shot. Crossbows are legal during the archery season, and our outfitter welcomes those that choose to hunt with one. They have a significant movement of animals (mule deer & antelope) through their area in October as they migrate to the winter range in Wyoming, which is unique to antelope hunting.

You'll be staying in a fully loaded lodge with a full kitchen to prepare meals and enjoy the evenings socializing with your hunting buddies.

Archery season dates: August 20 - November 14

    • Water hole hunting: August 20 - September 10
    • Water hole / Decoying: September 10 - October 1
    • Migration: October 1 - November 1.

What is included in the cost

    • 4 full days of hunting
    • 5 nights of accommodations in a fully loaded lodge
    • Access to prime private property
    • Blinds set before you arrive
    • Professional caping & field prep of your trophy.

    What is not included

    • License –  $155 + $16 habitat stamp
    • Meals
    • Extra hunting day (5 day hunt / 6 nights) - $250.

    Hunting Strategy

Get into the blind at 1st light and plan to be there all day. Bring a stack of magazines or good book and kick back to relax.

    Getting your license

The tag can be purchased on-line at the Nebraska Game & Fish Dept web site (www.outdoornebraska.org) before you arrive.
