Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep

Rocky Mountain Bighorn in Alberta's Canmore Bow_Zone

Hunt trophy bighorns in Alberta's famous Canmor archery-only area. The area typically holds good numbers of ewes and lambs all year long, but every year when the rut and cold weather kick in, the big rams come out of the park and into the hunting area. Catch the rams as they migrate out of the park in well established game trails, or glass meadows and slides for feeding / breeding rams. Backpack into tent camp (wall tent dropped in earlier with chopper) strategically located near sheep feeding and migration routes.  Be prepared for tough conditions, but it’s a highly productive hunt.  Close Encounters hunting consultant, Gary Martin, finished his Super Slam with a bow by killing a great ram in the Canmore in 2008.

Where: Canmore Bowhunting only area Southwest of Calgary, Alberta

Cost:  $30,000

Dall Sheep

Dall Sheep Bowhunt

Bowhunt dall sheep in the McKenzie Mountains of the Northwest Territories. Fly into remote sheep country 120 miles southwest of Norman Wells for a backpack hunt with a good outfitter. This is a first class, full service operation with tons of experience guiding bowhunters. They generally take 4-6 bowhunters every year, most of which go home with a good ram.  This area differs from many of the others in that the quality is very good. Expect shooters to average 35” - 37” with a few over 40” - good guides and a lot of sheep make this a great hunt.  This hunt combines well with mountain caribou.

Desert Sheep Bowhunt

Desert Bighorn Sheep in Mexico

Hunt desert bighorns on Carmen Island in Mexico with gun or bow. This island has a great population of good sheep and success runs near 100% on rams over 160 inches. This area is a great choice for bowhunters as the number of sheep generally allows for multiple opportunities and the terrain is rough and broken which creates good cover to approach to within lethal bow range.  Stay in a nice lodge on the ocean with great meals and a spectacular view.

The hill-country has more vegetation than west- Texas with more game per square mile. It’s less physical than the west-Texas with nice, but a little smaller average Rams than out west. You’ll be hunting private 1,000 – 2,000 acre ranch with a strict quota on the number of rams allowed to be harvested every year which ensures sustainable quality every year.  They have plenty Sheep and you’ll see 20-40 every day and nearly everyone will kill a mature Ram.
